Environment Committee

In September 2024, the Albany Rotary Club established a standing committee on the Environment. This follows the lead of Rotary International, which established Environmental Protection as one of its Areas of Focus in 2017. Since that time, many Rotary clubs and Districts have formed their own environmental committees to implement projects and policies about the environment. The Albany Rotary Environment Committee aims to follow the lead of Rotary International and other Rotary clubs regarding environmental initiatives in the Albany area.

Our goal is to meet monthly and bring issues and projects to the attention of Albany Rotary. The Environment Committee is currently in the process of becoming a member of Rotary International’s Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group (ESRAG) to stay current with issues and information on a worldwide basis.

In October 2024, the Albany Rotary Environment Committee adopted the following mission statement:

The mission of the Albany Rotary Club Environment Committee is to educate our club, develop community partnerships, and engage in projects and practices that protect the environment, tackle the climate crisis, and create a more sustainable planet.
